Preservation, Inspection & Packaging Officer - Carpenter

The Navy Supply Chain Group (SCG) provides logistics support and inventory to the Operational Fleet of the RNZN. We are seeking a Preservation, Inspection and Packaging Officer who will be responsible for the maintaining of professional standards of packaging for both the storage and freighting of all manner of goods and equipage.

The ideal candidate will be able to ensure all equipages are inspected, preserved and packaged in accordance with the applicable standards and references. The key output of this role is to ensure the 100% serviceability of equipage when it is issued for use.

This is a 'hands on' role where the successful candidate will be required to build creative packaging solutions and manufacture to the specified equipage preservation requirement. Carpentry and woodworking aptitude is required and a keen eye for detail.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that stores are inspected packaged and preserved to meet Defence, RNZN and ISO 9002 Standards
  • Inspect and clean items for packing, including the operation of high speed buffing equipment
  • Operation of woodworking machinery, power tools, shrink wrapping and heat sealing equipment
  • Making of cardboard and wooden containers
  • Packing and preservation of items for storage to specified quality standards
  • Operation of lifting equipment - forklift operation and overhead gantries
  • Monitoring the health and wellbeing of 'in store' equipage that is subject to through life maintenance programmes i.e. motor turning and repacking routines, packaging call-up and expiry
  • Assist in support of general warehousing duties as required.
