Health & Safety Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Health & Safety/Environment:
  • Hazards are identified and risks controlled in accordance with SSSP
  • Operating/safe working procedures and on-the-job training is implemented
  • Emergency procedures are prepared and tested
  • Staff performance and compliance with procedures evaluated
  • Relevant QS information is communicated to all employees
  • Advises/assists all Company employees in quality, safety and environmental matters
  • Responsible for the control of contractor’s activities on-site
  • Abide by MaxBuild Ltd Health & Safety policies and procedures and act in accordance with relevant statutory requirements
  • Report unsafe work areas or practices where observed, and to take the necessary steps to prevent harm, damage or loss to Employees and the company
  • Co-ordinate safety committee meetings
  • Investigate accidents and prepare reports for ACC and Worksafe NZ
The role also includes HR duties and light Quality Systems duties as per below: 
 
HR:
  • Perform quality controls and monitor positional KPI’s
  • Recruit, train, and appraise human resources
  • Cater to personnel’s concerns
  • Maintain and fine tune the MaxBuild human resources system
  • Oversee, analysis, maintain and communicate all HR/HSEQ issues as they arise to management
  • Identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resource function, ensure policies, procedures and reporting are compliant
  • Plan, conduct & foster positive attitude toward company goals
  • Keep records of benefits, performance reviews, terminations, employee statistics, training records, exit interviews
  • Prepare budget for HR/HSEQ resources
  • Achieve annual QS objectives and targets
 

Quality System:

  • Investigate client or staff complaints and respond through the corrective action system. Manage the non-conformity system to ensure all aspects are recorded, processed, analysed and reported to management.  Assist with improvements and report through to the wider team.
  • Be the management representative for the above standard with accreditation agencies
  • Implement and manage training needs for the above standards
  • Initiate, implement & maintain new or revised QS procedures as necessary
  • Arrange test, analysis or independent verification of equipment or services as appropriate
  • Ensure all new employees and critical contractors attend a QS induction

 


 

Job Requirements:

We are a rapidly growing business working in the civil and construction industry.
We are looking for someone with a background in the following:
  • At least 2-3 years experience preferably within the Cvil/Construction industries 
  • Knowledge and experience in dealing with  Health and Safety / Quality Assurance / Environmental plans
  • Working knowledge of People Safe would be an advantage
  • Someone who is well experienced in writing Job Descriptions and Employment Agreements.
  • Very familar with Hiring, inducting, arranging ongoing and further  training, annual performance appraisals and legal dismissal processes
  • A People Person who can naturally display empathy for staff on the one hand and ensure company policies are adhered to on the other.
  • Someone detail orientated and great organizational skills.
  • Excellent record keeping and providing detailed reports.
