SSA Marine Vietnam – Managerial position        

SSA Marine is an international port operator headquartered in Seattle USA. The company is active in more than 250 locations worldwide. SSA’s activities span cruise, dry bulk and container terminals. SSA Marine is handling more than 25 mill TEUs per year. The company is among the world’s largest privately held port operators. In Vietnam SSA owns and operates two marine terminal joint ventures in cooperation with amongst others Vinalines (Ministry of Transport) and associated subsidiaries.
We are now recruiting managerial staff with dry cargo bulk handling background to fill a leadership position at one of our Joint Venture Marine Terminals in Vietnam.
Job Description:
Job Title: Manager – Dry Bulk Operations
Business units: Cai Lan/Quang Ninh Northern Vietnam
Reports to:  The General Director of the Joint Venture
Qualifications:  We are searching for someone who has recently finished their university studies, and is ready to experience another part of the world as an expatriate employee.  Preference would be given to someone who has working experience in a marine port environment.
The ideal candidate speaks English fluently and has excellent written communication skills. A degree from a business school is required.
The candidate must relish responsibility as well as readily take initiative. A sense of urgency in getting the job done is also required.
Purpose: The candidate will be assigned to represent SSA Marine at joint venture level and will be a part of the terminal’s management team.
Principal Accountabilities:  The terminal is annually handling 4-5 mill tons of dry bulk cargo along with 100-200,000 TEU. The facility has been operational for about 2 years. We are about to embark on an-dock bulk warehouse construction project. This will facilitate faster cross quay handling rates. The Manager of Bulk operations will see this transition through and ensure that the terminal’s cargo throughput potential is maximized. A hands-on management style is therefore required. Over time the job scope will necessitate additional emphasis on project management, strategy incl. close daily liaison with the General Director in managing the company.
Specific Accountabilities:
  • Oversight and management of more than 100 staff.
  • Maintain procedures and processes covering day to day operations.
  • Oversight and management of contractors.
  • Operational liaison with customers/port users.
  • Liaison with authorities (customs, coast guard, police etc.)
The company employs about 220 staff.
The facility is capable of handling up to 5 mill tons of bulk cargo or 1 mill TEU annually.
Our port features the most modern and technically advanced cargo handling machinery available.
The terminal is a deep-water facility capable of accommodating the largest vessels calling at Vietnamese ports.
