Go Organic (Level 3)


Study towards a Certificate in Organic Horticulture (Level 3)

This Organic Horticulture (Level 3) course explores a wide range of organic techniques and systems. The overall aim is to build sustainable ecosystems, promote biodiversity and increase soil and plant health.


Topics covered include organic principles and philosophies, sustainable soil management, soil food webs, composting, companion planting, crop rotation, green manures, organic weed, pest and disease management, planning shelter for beneficial insects and an introduction to Permaculture.


This course is ideal for lifestyle block owners, home gardeners and/or commercial growers and will provide the key knowledge and skills required for organic growing!

Each course typically runs over eight months with students attending weekly tutorials, workshops or fieldtrips either daytime (during school hours) OR evenings and weekends.


Our tutors facilitate excellent learning opportunities using a variety of techniques including interactive and stimulating tutorials, group discussion, practical activities and case studies from real-life situations.

All of our agriculture programmes have been awarded the AgExcel Quality Mark which is endorsed by DairyNZ and Beef + Lamb New Zealand and recognises industry relevant, superior agricultural training.

Each year our skilled and qualified staff provide training to over 3000 learners throughout New Zealand. Much of the training is delivered in partnership with Telford (a division of Lincoln University), Aoraki Polytechnic and the Western Institute of Technology Taranaki (WITT). We provide training to Landcorp staff throughout New Zealand and deliver the formal training programme on Smedley Station – a long established training farm in the Hawkes Bay.

Our full-time courses are ideal for people starting out or wanting to fast track their agriculture or horticulture careers.

Our part-time courses provide flexible learning options for a wide range of people.
